ILEX VER RED SPRITE
Grower Notes:

Ilex verticillata 'Red Sprite' is commonly referred to as Red Sprite Winterberry Holly. It is a hardy, dwarf, deciduous holly that is native to the swampy areas of Eastern North America. It features bright red berries from fall through winter providing showy winter interest and food for the birds. This is a dense, compact variety that is deer resistant. Foliage is elliptic, glossy and dark green. Red Sprite is a female winterberry holly and will need a male pollinator to produce its berries. Usually one male winterberry will be sufficient for pollinating 9-10 female hollies. Jim Dandy Winterberry is a great pollinator for Red Sprite.

Red Sprite Winterberry Holly is slow growing and will only reach 3-5 feet tall and wide. It thrives in full to partial sun in rich, organic, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is perfect for bog gardens, along ponds and streams and for foundation plantings.
